Morocco : Oasis and snow

What a griffing contrast when, from Marrakesh, you discover on the horizon the High Atlas Range. Being so close to the Sahara desert, it is difficult to imagine a land of mountains and snow : Morocco is indeed the most mountainous country of North Africa. From the high summits, where the view is splendid, to the steep slopes and the deep corridors, the ground is very favorable for ski touring. The snow which has been blown off the summits remains in the valleys for a long time. The long valleys skiable in winter have a reputation for being unmissable.
Mules carry our equipment during this trek providing us with a welcome if somewhat unusual form of assistance. This trip takes place within a hidden Berber world and involves contact with the local villagers.
Our base, the Kasbah du Toukbal, in the village of Imlil is somewhere you will not easily forget.
The nights we spend in rustic mountain huts are largely compensated for by the comfort experienced in this impressive riad.
